Maryann’s is the kind of place you spot through the trees: weathered signs, a green-and-white window stand, picnic tables in the shade. The line moves fast and the owner’s often the one at the window.
We’re a roadside ice cream stand in Analomink, in the Poconos. Soft serve and homemade hard ice cream out one window; hot dogs, burgers, wings, and onion rings cooked to order out the other. There’s coffee for the grown-ups, pup cups for the dog, and chocolate sprinkles for everyone else.
The stand has been here for 57 years. We’ve never seen a reason to redo what works — same window, same recipes, same generous twist cone. As the owner likes to put it: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Everything off the grill is made when you order it. No heat lamps, no pre-wrapped anything. The short wait is the point.
